826LA, a non-profit Writing/Tutoring Center & VENICE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL
Invite you to join our FOOD DRIVE for the Los Angeles Westside Food Bank
TUE, NOV 18TH – TUE, NOV 25Th, 2008
Many of us find it difficult to believe how many people in our community are hungry…..
….. with the tanking economy and a predicted jump in heating bills it should come as no surprise that a record demand of food bank services is expected.
What you may not know is that the shelves of most food banks are all but empty.
The West Side Food Bank, www.westsidefoodbankca.org, provides food to 65 social service agencies in Los Angeles. In the past six months alone the Westside Food Bank saw an increase of 25% in those who were turning to food banks for assistance: That’s nearly 20,000 more people than last year.
The West Side Food Bank is able to take $1 and turn it into 7 meals.

SMILE! Offers Hope for Economic Woes
Los Angeles, CA, March 25, 2009 – The long awaited collection of Elan SunStar’s inspirational photographs, quotations and scientific representations of the act of smiling becomes available Wednesday March 25, 2009. The book is titled SMILE!, The Secret Science of Smiling, and is filled with stories and endorsements by world leaders, scientists and philosophers alike. SunStar, a pioneer in alternative approaches to self-improvement of mind, body and spirit, weaves a solid biological, sociological and psychological base into this powerful message.
In times when people lose jobs, homes and savings they often turn to drugs or alcohol and suffer depression. SunStar’s photographs are not only brilliant in colors and full of smiles but they evoke a physical response of well-being and happiness. In turn, people are inspired to think positive thoughts and aspire to achieve their own success through more productive means.
“The purpose and mission of the Smile book is to profoundly influence the course of human development at a critical time when emotional anxiety from economic and ecological situations challenges humanity to find new and simple ways to renew the Spirit-Mind and body,” says SunStar, “and to re-commit our intentions of happiness and harmony on a planet whose destiny depends on our decisions and actions.”

Food and Beverage Collections honor Martin Luther King Day and USAservice.org’s Call for a Day of Service
MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 2009 SAN FRANCISCO, CA – In conjunction with Martin Luther King Day and Obama’s Call for a Day of Service (usaservice.org), Brazen Street Corporation launches The Tastiest Buzz Premium Caffeinated Beverage with a Food Drive to benefit the San Francisco Food Banks. On the cusp of the Fancy Food Show West, held at the Moscone Center, The Tastiest Buzz will co-host the charitable event at The Cantina Bar, Union Square Monday, January 19th from 5pm-7:30pm.
Food and Beverage items will be collected during this special multi-cause event featuring a new Premium Caffeinated Beverage which debuts at the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) event. “Our corporate vision goes far beyond traditional product launches”, states Brazen Founder Dr. Abe Bushansky, who runs 14 locations in his Podiatric Surgery Practice. “I do this for fun and to establish a vehicle to build a Foundation for Philanthropic efforts.”
About USAservice.org
In 1994, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday into a national day of community service to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others. As a tribute to that legacy and the very real needs of our nation, the President-elect and Vice President-elect have launched a national organizing effort on the eve of their Inauguration to engage Americans in service. This national day of service will fall on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 19, 2009 and, unlike past calls to service, President-elect Obama is calling on all Americans to do more than just offer a single day of service to their cities, towns and neighborhoods. He is asking all of us to make an ongoing commitment to our communities. Never has it been more important to come together in shared purpose to tackle the common challenges we face.
About Brazen Street Corporation
A New Jersey Corporation, Brazen Street was formed to establish a premium quality beverage development service. Founder Dr. Abe Bushansky uses his discriminating palette to seek out the next great taste in enhanced beverages. TastiestBuzz.com was launched in US markets in January 2009 and is followed by an Advanced Cola Series in the Summer of 2009. Bushanskys global effort will help establish his philanthropic arm to further support his belief in community service. An established Podiatric Surgeon with 14 practices Bushansky continues to reach out and make an impact through his diverse interests.

Support Our Troops; Attend a Free Screening to Help Operation DVD
Local truck driver-turned-filmmaker Tamera Sturgis will screen her highly acclaimed Mixed Martial Arts documentary, UNDER PRESSURE in her local community. The film will be shown Saturday December 6th at Pro-Fitness gym, which is located at 424 D St in Marysville, CA 95901. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the film will start at 2:00 p.m. Sturgis’ film has played in New York, Denver, Chico, Houston, Boston and Portland, but this will be the first time it has been screened locally. An after-party will take place at Padres Pub located at 461 Bridge St in Yuba City.
The screening is free, but Sturgis is asking everyone to support our troops and bring their used DVDS to donate them to the charity OPERATION DVD. Operation DVD collects DVDS and sends them to our troops overseas. In many places our troops cannot even go outside and play sports do to snipers and land mines. DVDS are often their only form of entertainment. The DVDS are also sent to VA hospitals around the world to help the wounded pass the time during their hospital stay. Sturgis will donate several copies of Under Pressure.
The documentary features Tamera’s husband, Todd as he tries to go from overweight truck driver to fully fledged cage fighter. “The film shows what the family members of these fighters go through when they have a loved one in the fight game.” said Sturgis, “So far the response from the MMA community has been positive, I’m curious to see what the people of Yuba–Sutter think.” The film also features two Sacramento area fighters Jaime Jara and James Fanshier. Says Chris Gill, Owner of Pro-Fitness Gym, “I was a little taken aback when she showed me a stack of magazines from all over the US, Australia, and England, singing the film’s praises. When a local person puts their heart and soul into something it’s up to the community to give something back. I am really happy for her.” Don’t forget to bring your used DVDs to support our troops.
For more information, photos and trailers of the UNDER PRESSURE, visit http://mycagefighter.com/. To learn about Operation DVD visit http://operationdvd.net.
